Ernst and Danilo Samonig establish a family business in Fürnitz, where the sawmill is still located. A saw hall, a gang saw, a band saw and a circular edging saw are built.
The sawmill introduces a roundwood sorting line to increase efficiency.
The sawmill installs a Fischer saw (named after an employee) with gang edger and a sorting hall.
Change of legal form. The sawmill is converted to a limited liability company.
The company installs and puts into operation completely new technology (gang saw, circular edger, band saw). Processes are optimised. The sorting hall is rebuilt. This enables the company to cut timber lengths of up to 12 m. Demand from northern Italy increases after the earthquake in Friuli. Wood is recognised as a better building material than concrete. There is an increase in new customers from Italy.
The first biomass heating system is put into operation. A plan to utilise wood waste within the company takes shape.
Two drying chambers are added to the facility.
After fire causes millions in damage, the sawmill manages to resume operations in a controlled re-start phase within just three months. The fire was caused by a technical defect.
Large amounts of larch wood from the Samonig sawmill are used in the famous Teatro La Fenice and the Arsenale di Venezia, among other buildings.
The company introduces an automatic edging line and a new disposal system for sawmill residues.
An NSM 240 circular resaw is installed, and the band saw is rebuilt.
The installation of an automatic sawn timber sorting system facilitates and optimises process flows.
A new roundwood sorting line is purchased to meet increasing demand.
A new biomass heating system is installed and complemented by four drying chambers.
A fully automated sorting robot for sawn timber is installed.
Strategic decision: Peter Naverschnig, Managing Director of PMG Holzhandels GmbH in Villach, takes over the sawmill. The management tasks of the Samonig sawmill are now shared by Peter Naverschnig (first from right), Christoph Wiesflecker (third from right) and Christof Dragaschnig (second from right).
This takeover marks the beginning of a new era for both companies and ensures the continued success of a long-standing partnership.
